After a long time, theater lovers will have a unique opportunity to enjoy the excellent repertoire of Belgrade theaters under the open sky, as several Belgrade theatres will perform at Belgrade Summer Stage at Tašmajdan during June and July. Summer of culture will begin with a musical spectacle of the Terazije Theater – “Mamma Mia”, which opens this stage with two performances in a row, on June 25 and 26 at 9 p.m.
The musical “Mamma Mia” was inspired by the hits of the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA. It is one of the most famous musicals of all times, and is constalny performed by thousands of theater companies worldwide. It set remarkable records – twenty years after its world premiere, more than sixty million people saw the show. So, what is the secret behind the huge success of this musical?
This interesting piece is set on one of the Greek islands, and follows the story of two women – mother Donna and her daughter Sophie, as they encounter whirlpool of adversities of life. Mischievous Sophie is in search of her true identity, as Donna looks for her long lost love.
What makes the musical Mamma Mia so special are the dance numbers, in which a lot of actors perform dressed in recognizable, brightly coloured costumes, accompanied by the timeless music of ABBA. All of that combined perfectly interpretates the story of love and family.
The audience on Tašmajdan will have the opportunity to see the first staging of the famous musical in the Balkans and enjoy the legendary hits such as: “Super Trouper”, “Lay All Your Love on Me”, “Dancing Queen”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Thank You for the Music”, “Money, Money, Money”, “The Winner Takes It All”, “Voulez-Vous”, “SOS”, and, of course, “Mamma Mia”.
For this licensed musical, the crucial part was the cooperation with famous Jure Franko, a former Olympic athlete and a now a famous theater producer. Terazije theater has started this project led by a vision to bring to domestic audience a story that has won hearts of viewers all over the world, combining the abilites of actors, ballet, orchestra and other team members.
