53rd Bitef festival, Sept. 17-26.

Bitef is one reason why early autumn in Belgrade our favorite time of the year. This theater festival brings together companies from all over the world, and each of them brings it’s own tradition and many of them also showcase fresh theatrical tendencies. The festival will raise the curtain on September 17th and close on September 26th, under the motto “Let’s start love over”.

As art director of Bitef festival Ivan Medenica explains, the contemporary theatre is t asked with creating a community by activating audience to participate in the play, deleting the invisible wall between the audience and the stage. Medenica states that the most up-to-date model of the theatre is the interactive or immersive one, and that building of a community and creating immersive experience is the main objective of Bitef festival this year.

To make sure your get the tickets for selected plays, it is good to make a reservation. Reservations will open on August 15th, while direct sales start on September 2nd in Pozorište na Terazijama (Terazije theater). Plays are set in evening hours, with the exception of the performance “Remote Belgrade”, which takes place continuously on Belgrade streets during the the whole festival, with Belgrade citizens taking active part.
